During a month of superstar releases, Future's "Wait for U" f/Drake & Tems (Freebandz/Epic) appears to be the one. It's outstreamed the competition, reigning over Apple Music on its way to 100m streams in less than four weeks. The song has returned to #1 on Apple following major drops from Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar and Harry Styles.
Meanwhile, the track—which samples "Higher" from Tems' 2020 debut, For Broken Ears—is soaring up the Urban and Rhythm charts, reaching the Top 10 in just a few weeks. Future and Drake, the undisputed tag-team champions of the streaming era, will likely three-peat with "Wait for U," the follow-up to smashes "Life Is Good" (2020) and "Way 2 Sexy" (2021).
Future thanked RCA's Tems in a tweet and explained the decision to give her a featured-artist credit even though her contribution was an interpolation and not a dedicated original recording, remarking, "Soon as I heard the [Tems] sample over [ATL Jacob's beat], instantly connected to my soul."
