Filmmaker J’la Swafford is the beneficiary of the Motown Records Creator Program Supported by Google; she will provide creative support to label executives and artists through July. The initiative is designed to elevate women of color in the music industry.
Swafford is producing content for Tiana Major9. A native of New Orleans, she has spent the last three years working as a video marketer.
“J’la is an inspired young filmmaker with a soulful eye and a passion for innovative and forward-leaning storytelling,” said Motown Chairwoman & CEO Ethiopia Habtemariam. “As a label that is committed to elevating Black creative work, we are excited to provide her an opportunity and the creative space to cultivate her natural talent and expand her portfolio.”
Motown's partnership with Google was brokered by UTA Entertainment & Culture Marketing.
