U.K. CHARTS: WET LEG LEAD INDIE TAKEOVER

Newcomer Wet Leg has hit #1 on the U.K.’s Official Albums Chart with its self-titled debut on Domino. Over on singles, Harry Styles has a second week at the top.

Wet Leg's is one of three independent releases in today’s Top 3, the first time that has happened in more than a decade. The duo outsold the rest of the Top 5 combined to earn the second-biggest opening week for any chart-topping album in 2022 so far, after Central Cee’s self-released 23.

Father John Misty’s Chloë and the Next 20th Century (Bella Union) is new at #2 today, followed by Jack White’s Fear of the Dawn (Third Man) at #3.

The last time three independent releases led the albums chart was in May 2011, when Adele’s 21 (XL) and 19 were at #1 and #3, respectively, and Fleet FoxesHelplessness Blues (Nonesuch) was #2.

Elsewhere in the Top 10, Little Mix rises five with greatest hits collection Between Us (RCA) at #7 following the start of the trio’s final tour before a hiatus.

Kae Tempest scores a career best with The Line Is a Curve (Fiction) at #8, while Camila Cabello’s Familia (Epic) is new at #9.

On the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart, Styles’ “As It Was” (Columbia) claimed 70k in chart sales this week, including 7.6m plays on streaming services, to remain at #1.

This week’s highest new entry goes to Jack Harlow’s “First Class” (Atlantic), debuting at #2.

Cat Burns enters the Top 5 for the first time, with “Go” (RCA) at #5, while Ed Sheeran and Camila Cabello’s “Bam Bam” (Epic) reaches a new peak of #9.

Finally, “Crazy What Love Can Do” (Warner Music U.K.) from David Guetta, Ella Henderson and Becky Hill debuts at #20.
