JUAN GABRIEL'S MUSIC LANDS AT UMPG

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) and its Virgin Music U.S. Latin publishing division have inked an exclusive agreement with the estate of legendary Mexican recording artist Juan Gabriel.

Virgin Music U.S. Latin will now represent Gabriel’s post-2008 catalog and future releases, while UMPG will handle Gabriel’s entire catalog, uniting all of Gabriel’s music in the Casa de Jody Gerson.

One of the most acclaimed singers in the history of Spanish-language music, Gabriel has sold more than 150m albums in genres as diverse as ranchero, ballad, pop and bolero and produced dozens of albums for other artists.

Said Virgin Music Latin America & Iberian Peninsula president Victor González, “I consider Gabriel the most prolific singer-songwriter and performer in Latin America. His influence, recognized around the world, is more alive than ever,”

Jeff Jampol, CEO of JAM Inc. and steward of Gabriel's music, said: “As the worldwide managers of Juan Gabriel’s legacy and art, we’d particularly like to thank Jody Gerson, Victor González and [UMPG chief counsel] David Kokakis for their tireless efforts to carve this new venture with us—it took a lot of work, and their support & encouragement along the way made all the difference in the world. I just hope there's a Juan cover of a Doors song somewhere in the vault.”
