THE RECORDING ACADEMY'S BMC TO HONOR JOHN LEGEND

The Recording Academy will honor 12-time Grammy winner John Legend with the first Recording Academy Global Impact Award during the inaugural Black Music Collective event.

Summer Walker will perform. Legendary producer Jimmy Jam—the first Black chair of the Recording Academy Board of Trustees and a Songwriting Hall of Fame inductee—will speak. D-Nice will spin throughout the celebration, with MC Lyte serving as the voice of the evening. Adam Blackstone is the musical director. Additional participants will be announced later this week.

The Recording Academy Honors Presented by the Black Music Collective will take place on 4/2, the night before the 64th Annual Grammy Awards, at Resorts World Las Vegas.

Said Recording Academy co-president Valeisha Butterfield Jones, "John Legend is one of the most important artists of our time, someone who leads by example and consistently pushes boundaries in music, philanthropy and activism. His contributions to and impact on music and culture are unparalleled."

Added Riggs Morales, chair of the Black Music Collective, "This event is a reflection of our continued work as we strive to celebrate the best and brightest in Black music, creators who transcend race and genre."

Legend is on the Academy's board of trustees and an honorary chair of the Black Music Collective.
