Bollywood actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh—known as the Super Singh of Punjab—has struck his first major-label deal, signing with Warner Music.
The game plan is to take him out globally, starting with singles with Tory Lanez and Tanzania’s Diamond Platnumz.
“Punjabi music has long been popular in India, and it’s now igniting international interest,” said Max Lousada, CEO, Warner Recorded Music. “You don’t get many bigger names in the genre than Diljit Dosanjh and with our creative expertise and global marketing network, we can help him reach new audiences worldwide and become a truly global name. We’re really honored to have Diljit sign to Warner Recorded Music.”
Dosanjh has released 13 studio albums. His 2020 set G.O.A.T. went Top 20 in Canada. His latest track, “Lover,” has more than 69m views on YouTube. His hit films include Honsla Rakh, Jatt & Juliet and Super Singh.
Dosanjh's manager, Sonali Singh, notes that he's also sold out venues in the U.K. like SSE Arena, Wembley, First Direct Arena and Birmingham Arena. “Diljit’s growth as a global artist has been unprecedented, and we’re hopeful that this partnership with Warner Music India will take us one step closer to making him a global music star,” he said.
Warner Music India launched two years ago. It has since signed a licensing deal with Tips Music, opened the Maati label and formed partnerships with Ziiki Media and Sky Digital.
