Universal Music Greater China (UMGC) has announced the expansion of its operations with the Tower's first Asian front-line division: Capitol Records China. Tom Tang will serve as GM. He will be based in Beijing.
UMGC also heralded the creation of a new, stand-alone international operation with the appointment of Yvonne Yuen as SVP, Marketing & Head of International, UMGC. Both divisions will report to Sunny Chang, Chairman/CEO UMGC.
Said Capitol Music Group Chair/CEO Michelle Jubelirer, “We're in a global industry and it's hugely important to Capitol that audiences around the world are able to engage with our artists and their music. The formation of Capitol Records China and the naming of such talented people to the label’s executive management team means that Chinese audiences will have better access to domestic repertoire in China under Tom and to our diverse roster of international superstar talent under Yvonne. This is a tremendous and fitting advance in Capitol’s 80-year legacy.”
UMGC became the first major music company to establish multiple front-line label operations in China with the August 2021 launch of Republic Records China, EMI China, PolyGram Records China and Universal Music China.
