Inimitable brothers Monte and Avery Lipman, co-founders and chief execs of Republic Records and among the music-industry figures who’ve tolerated us the longest, will be honored at City of Hope’s Spirit of Life Gala this fall (date/details TBA). The gathering will return to L.A. after a two-year, pandemic-induced hiatus.

The honor is presented to industry leaders who, per the explanatory materials, “have made a significant commitment to improving the lives of others through the advancement of research and clinical innovation and the delivery of personalized, compassionate care. Honorees are selected for their notable contributions to the community in which they live and the profession in which they work.” Prior honorees include Sylvia Rhone, Jon Platt, Mo Ostin, Clive Davis, Quincy Jones, Shelli and Irving Azoff, Doug Morris and Sir Lucian Grainge.

“City of Hope remains one of the most important organizations in terms of diagnosis, treatment and providing care for those in need,” commented Monte. “Their groundbreaking research for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases continues to save many lives. To be recognized by City of Hope is an exceptional honor, and we are fully committed to raising even more awareness for this incredibly worthy cause. Speaking of hope, I really, really hope nobody from HITS turns up—have you ever watched one of them eat?”

“We’ve marveled at City of Hope’s tireless work for many years,” noted Avery. “Evan [Lamberg] and the board have furthered a very important mission that has made the world a better place in the process. As far as we’re concerned, this is one of the most important honors we could ever receive.”

"Monte and Avery Lipman are my oldest and dearest friends in the music business as we met almost 40 years ago in college," said Music, Film and Entertainment Industry Executive Board Chair and UMPG Prexy North America Lamberg. "Watching what the two of them have done, and continue to do, professionally and personally has been inspiring, to say the least." He added that the gala honoring the bros was sure to be "one of our most impactful and successful Spirit of Life events ever."
