UMG, TRIBECA GET MIXED UP

Universal Music Group has announced a partnership between its Universal Music Group for Brands division and Tribeca Enterprises, the film/content company co-founded by actor Robert De Niro and business partner Jane Rosenthal. Six music-focused productions will emerge in 2022. They will consist of film, television and podcast projects from UMG’s Mercury Studios, Polygram Entertainment and other affiliated entities.

Up first: the world premiere of the Mercury documentary Mixtape, which will see a live performance by rapper Jadakiss. The event will take place 4/7 at The United Palace Theater in NYC's Washington Heights.

Produced with Saboteur Media in association with Def Jam Recordings, Mixtape tells the story of mixtape culture and its role in spreading hip-hop around the world. The film was directed and produced by Omar Acosta (Stretch and Bobbito: Radio That Changed Lives). It features appearances by A$AP Rocky, Brucie B, Bun B, CeeLo, DJ Clue, DJ Drama, DJ Whoo Kid, Doo Wop, Fat Joe, 50 Cent, Funkmaster Flex, Jadakiss, Jeezy, Kid Capri, KRS-One, Lil Wayne, Angie Martinez, Mister Cee, Tony Touch and 2 Chainz.

Tickets for the Mixtape premiere are available here. Copies of a HITS editor's mixtape can be had by opening the trunk of his Gremlin.
