SUMMER AT THE BOWL

The 100th season of the Hollywood Bowl will see Kenny Loggins reunite with Jim Messina, Ricky Martin perform with the LA Phil & Gustavo Dudamel and Billie Eilish and Debbie Harry assay a Peggy Lee/Frank Sinatra tribute.

Fourth of July fireworks shows, meanwhile, will feature Steve Martin and his bluegrass band, The Steep Canyon Rangers, and Martin Short.

A fully staged iteration of Kinky Boots, directed and choregraphed by Jerry Mitchell, has the 7/8-10 weekend sewn up; bassist Marcus Miller will lead a concert of music from Black cinema on 8/24; and a double bill of Grace Jones and CHVRCHES fills the 9/25 slot.

Los Angeles Philharmonic Music and Artistic Director Dudamel will conduct 10 concerts, among them a tribute to Leonard Bernstein (7/12, 14); a double program of Beethoven fifths—the “Emperor” Concerto and Symphony No. 5 (7/26); and the world premiere of Gonzalo Grau’s LA Phil-commissioned Cuatro Concerto (7/28).

Among the other pop shows on the schedule are Boyz II Men and TLC (7/29), John Fogerty (7/30), a-ha with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra (7/31), Diana Ross (8/26-27) and Duran Duran with fireworks (9/9-11).

The Wednesday jazz series will include shows by Herbie Hancock (9/28), the Jazz @ Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (9/7) and Trombone Shorty’s celebration of New Orleans (8/10).

The Hollywood Bowl Jazz Festival, with The Roots, Gregory Porter and Tower of Power, will starts the season 6/25-26.
