PORTRAIT OF A NATION HONOREES REVEALED

Grammy-winning music producer/executive Clive Davis, filmmaker Ava DuVernay and tennis-champs-turned-producers Venus and Serena Williams are among the seven recipients of The Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery’s Portrait of a Nation award.

The honorees will be celebrated during the Portrait of a Nation Gala on 11/12, proceeds from which will support the National Portrait Gallery’s endowment for exhibitions, collections, commissions and education programs.

Said Kim Sajet, Director of the National Portrait Gallery, “These honorees are innovators in their respective disciplines and advocates for social causes who use their voices to care for and lift up others. The Portrait of a Nation Award reminds us that history is living and the choices people make have an impact on the nation’s legacy.”

Other 2022 recipients include Chief Medical Advisor to the President Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., World Central Kitchen founder José Andrés and Children’s Defense Fund founder Marian Wright Edelman. They join past honorees Spike Lee, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Aretha Franklin, Earth, Wind & Fire, Anna Wintour, Jeff Bezos, Rita Moreno and Madeleine Albright.
