SHAKUR FAMILY SUES WHALLEY

Billboard has reported that Sekyiwa Shakur, daughter of the late Afeni Shakur-Davis, is suing Tom Whalley, executor of her mother's estate.

Shakur-Davis was Tupac Shakur's mother. She died in 2016, having named Whalley executor.

Sekyiwa Shakur and The Tupac Shakur Foundation's suit claims that the former Warner executive embezzled millions from the estate. “Whalley has unreasonably enriched himself at the expense of the beneficiaries and in bad faith by taking excessive compensation in a position from which he should properly be barred based on the inherent conflict of interest,” Shakur alleges in the lawsuit.

She further claims that Whalley's conflict of interests includes his naming himself manager of Amaru Entertainment, the label that released Tupac's recordings and was the "principal income-producing asset" of the trust.

“Whalley has received more than $5.5m that he paid himself in the last five years through Amaru,” Shakur continued. He has also refused to release personal property held by the estate, she says, including items Afeni inherited from Tupac, among them the late rapper’s cars, jewelry, artwork and gold records.

Representing Shakur is L. Londell McMillan, a music attorney who previously handled Prince. View the lawsuit in its entirety here
