Primary Wave’s got a brand new bag of music: the publishing and recording income of James Brown.
After hearing suitors beg "Please please please," the Godfather of Soul’s estate has sold Primary Wave Music a stake in Brown’s publishing, recording-income stream and name and likeness rights. Primary Wave is also involved in several projects related to The James Brown 2000 Trust, established in 2000 by Soul Brother #1 for charitable and educational purposes.
“We believe that our choice of professionals to take the James Brown Legacy to the next level is going to prove to be one of the most successful events in Mr. Brown’s long history in show business,” said Russell Bauknight, fiduciary for the James Brown Estate and Trust.
Included in the deal are some of Brown’s biggest hits, among them “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag,” “I Got You (I Feel Good),” “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and “Living in America.”
Primary Wave Music CEO & Founder Larry Mestel woke up in a cold sweat and said, “I feel good! Wow, I am awed that Primary Wave has been chosen by the estate of James Brown to partner with the Godfather of Soul. We're thrilled to help continue the expansion of his influence and further his legacy through both his music and The James Brown 2000 Trust.”
