THE DAY WE LOST JOHN

41 years ago on 12/8, John Lennon was gunned down by an obsessed fan, Mark David Chapman. The passage of time has lessened the pain of this horror somewhat, though it's still acute. The Get Back documentary brings John back to us, in all his moods, and it is a joyous thing to watch him sing, play, joke, dance and discourse on politics and life. But this remains a grim anniversary, not to mention a reminder of the shattering impact of gun violence.

Rather than dwell on his loss, though, we find ourselves gravitating toward his music more than ever. Here's a clip from Get Back that speaks volumes about The Beatles' musical and personal chemistry.
