SNAP SIGNS SONY

Sony Music Entertainment has struck a deal with Snap to include its artists’ music in Snap’s library of licensed songs.

Snap now has deals with the three majors, plus major publishers, BMG and members of MERLIN.

Said Dennis Kooker, SME President, Global Digital Business, “Through this agreement, our artists have more ways to connect with fans and enhance engagement in their music by enabling their songs to be part of the lens and sounds tools that support communication and creative expression among Snapchat’s users.”

Sony Music has leveraged Snap’s AR capabilities in recent years to share new music with Snapchatters. Snap and Sony Music partnered on an AR lens to support the launch of Kygo’s collaboration with Whitney Houston, “Higher Love,” Calvin Harris & Rag’n’Bone Man’s “Giant” and G-Eazy & Halsey’s “Him and I.”

Snap is expanding the music experience on Snapchat by adding sounds into the AR lenses available in the lens carousel. Rolling out soon will be sound lenses with a pre-selected song embedded into the lens, a lens that transforms pictures of anyone to appear as if they are singing a song and Cameo sound lenses that apply visual effects to create animated music videos.
