PIZZA DELIVERY

P.T. Anderson's new film, Licorice Pizza, takes place in 1973 in the San Fernando Valley, and is thus prompting hopes that the filmmaker is returning to the pulp nostalgia of his breakout film Boogie Nights. It takes its title from a slang term for a vinyl LP, and from the record-store chain that was a mecca for Valleyites in those days. (Even now, we recall the Victory Blvd. outlet's head-shop aroma with a Proustian sigh). The film, which opens in select theaters on 11/26 and goes wide on Christmas day, centers on youngsters played by Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman and co-stars Bradley Cooper, Sean Penn and Tom Waits.

The Republic soundtrack, meanwhile, features vintage tracks from the likes of Paul McCartney & Wings, David Bowie, The Doors, Chuck Berry, James Gang, Sonny & Cher, Blood, Sweat & Tears, Taj Mahal and more.
