Behold the Co-op Funeralcare list of the 10 most-played songs at funerals in England.
"You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry and the Pacemakers is the new #1, based on approximately 100,000 funerals conducted in the 12 months between 9/1/20 and 8/31/21. Co-op’s funeral directors and arrangers provided the data. (Ironically, Gerry Marsden himself died in January; the song was played during his own funeral by a guitarist).
Displaying the diversity of what people think is the best way to say goodbye, the Top 10 includes songs from Monty Python, Andrea Bocelli and Fleetwood Mac.
“'You’ll Never Walk Alone' has been a standout over the last year—its sentiment around weathering the storm of life by coming together and supporting one another has really struck a chord with so many after the extraordinary events of the last 18 months,” said Co-op Funeralcare Funeral Service Manager Pauline McAvoy. “It’s a beautiful melody that carries such deep meaning.”
