An assortment of viral TikTok hits and a cover of Nirvana’s best-known song have thumbs a-popping this week. One of the TikTok hitmakers even has a major-label deal.
“POCKET ROCKET” from Columbia’s Cochise, which was released in August, is among the Top 5 Biggest Movers on the Shazam USA Top 100 after catching fire on TikTok along with Realestk’s “WFM,” Siouxxie’s “Masquerade” and MostHated’s “Smooth Criminal,” which mentions Michael Jackson but is not a cover.
The cover this week is the Malia J version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (Think Up Anger) that has a prominent placement in Black Widow, which started streaming on Disney+ last week. The song was the Biggest Mover back in July when the film opened in theaters.
In the U.K., where Malia J’s track is getting attention as well, the first single from former Little Mix member Jesy Nelson, “Boyz,” is the greatest gainer, followed by vintage songs from Snow Patrol, Stevie Nicks and AC/DC.
