Corey Berkowitz has joined Saban Music Group as Head of Pop & Urban A&R, where he’ll oversee a roster that includes Static & Ben El, Mergui, Nakkia Gold, Don Omar and Chesca.
“For me, it’s important to be part of every step of the process,” says Berkowitz, who’s a songwriter and arranger as well as a seasoned creative exec. “I’m not just an A&R who’s looking for talent; I’m part of the song’s creation. I understand how to take a song from zero to 100. There’s nothing better than helping artists bring their most authentic visions to life."
The son of radio programmer Gary Berkowitz, Corey was previously VP of A&R for Rock Mafia, where he worked with writer/producers Tim James and Antonina Armato, Elohim and Yoshi Flower, among others, while also shepherding a deal for MOD SUN. During the same period, he co-wrote Bahari’s “Ways of Love” and Quin XCII’s “Holding Hands” f/Elohim.
“I want to be part of songs that are undeniable,” he adds. “Those songs that don’t require a million opinions; they just hit you right in the face. It starts with making the right connections and leveraging a deep, emotional understanding of who to introduce to whom.”
