TRILLER STEPS IN IT WITH TRUMP DEAL

Considerable outrage is palpable around the biz with the news that Triller—owner of the high-profile Verzuz franchise—is paying odious, twice-impeached, one-term former President Donald Trump and the elder of his two repulsive sons, Donald Jr., to provide commentary for the upcoming Holyfield-Belfort fight in Hollywood, Florida.

That this will go down on the 20th anniversary of 9/11 is perhaps the most malevolent aspect of this clown show, though it also comes just as the SCOTUS majority Trump was somehow allowed to create sets women’s rights back about 400 years.

Various reports claim that Trump is earning an “obscene” sum to blather on amid the bout and that he’s being flown to and from Mar-a-Lago in a G-5 jet, though their anonymous sources may well be Trump himself (possibly in the false-nose-and-glasses guise of his laughable PR alias, “John Barron”).

In any case, at this perilous moment for democracy, human rights and public health it is beyond appalling that Triller is paying for Trump’s toxic spew. A notorious white supremacist, gleeful misogynist, malignant narcissist, authoritarian bully, rapacious if incompetent goniff, destabilizer of public institutions and bloviating turd whose vile, ignorant opinions actually got him banned from Twitter—where hateful bullshit is the baseline—the man shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a microphone.

Will disgust with this dick move by Triller cause boxing fans to avoid its coverage of the match? Or will the prospect of the two Donalds furnishing “color commentary” (that color being white, one assumes) for a four-hour punchfest actually draw people in? It is an “attention economy,” after all, and nobody screams for attention like our spray-tanned Mussolini. But from where we’re sitting, the wrong two guys are going to be hit in the face.
