OLIVIA INKS WITH SONY PUB

Sony Music Publishing is announcing that it has inked a pub deal with 2021’s biggest breakout act, Geffen supernova Olivia Rodrigo. There had been whisperings about the deal throughout the biz for some time.

As you know, Rodrigo has scored two massive hits, “drivers license” (close to 1 billion streams on Spotify alone) and “good 4 u” (675m on the Spot to date) and streamed up a storm with several others. Her full-length set, SOUR, bowed at #1 with nearly 300k in May, has racked up 1.7m in ATD and has thus far spent four non-consecutive weeks atop our Top 50 chart; expect another nice boost for the album when the vinyl drops on 8/20. The 18-year-old co-wrote the songs on her album with producer Dan Nigro.

She is also, we need hardly remind you, the star of Disney’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, for which she penned the gold single “All I Want.”

Oh, and she recently met with President Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci at the White House as part of her commitment to increasing COVID-19 vaccination levels.

“There’s nothing I love more than songwriting; it’s my favorite thing in the world, and I’m excited to be working with the team at Sony Music Publishing,” reads a quote attributed to Rodrigo.

“Olivia is a once-in-a-generation talent with the heart of a true songwriter—there is no limit to what she can accomplish,” proclaimed Sony Pub chief Jon Platt. “Along with the entire Sony Music Publishing team, we look forward to supporting Olivia’s incredible artistry and creating the best opportunities for her songs as she begins this exciting new chapter.”

SMP Director, A&R, Thomas Krottinger added, “We are beyond excited to champion [Rodrigo] as she continues inspiring the world.” SVP Creative Jennifer Knoepfle chimed in, “What strikes me most about Olivia is her incredible storytelling ability. Every song on SOUR spins a narrative that is both unique to her and relatable to so many.”

At the moment, “good 4 u” sits at #3 on our Streaming Songs Chart, while cuts “Traitor” and “Déjà Vu” reside in the Top 20.
