WELCOME MORE PRINCE

Sony Legacy has issued another track from the upcoming Prince release Welcome 2 America. The Prince estate, meanwhile, has unveiled a new season of its official podcast.

“Hot Summer” is the latest track from Welcome 2 America, which was recorded and shelved in 2010; it comes out 7/30.

On the first episode of the podcast The Story of Welcome 2 America, Minneapolis music journalist Andrea Swensson and Prince’s longtime vocalist and collaborator Shelby J. share the backstory of how the Welcome 2 America sessions began, when Prince enlisted the young bass phenom Tal Wilkenfeld to help him form a live trio and record a series of improvisational compositions with drummer Chris Coleman. Once the instrumental tracks were recorded, Shelby and her fellow NPG vocalists Liv Warfield and Elisa Fiorillo were brought into Studio A to record their harmonies, melody lines, jokes and even a rap with Prince.

After recording “Hot Summer,” Prince took the musicians for a drive past the beach while cranking the new tune. Listen to it here.
