Sony's Måneskin is leading the charge for the return of rock as the Eurovision winners light up global charts. They won with "ZITTI E BUONI," but it's their English-language material, natch, that's primed them for an international breakthrough.
The band's cover of Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons' "Beggin" has soared to #2 on Spotify's global chart, followed by "I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE" at #8. Thanks to a major add on Today's Top Hits, "Beggin" is a mere 1m streams behind Olivia's Rodrigo's "good 4 u," which has logged 43 consecutive days at #1. Will Måneskin—Danish for "moonlight" (their bassist is half Danish)—be the act that ends Olivia's run at the top of Spotify global?
On Spotify's domestic chart, "Beggin" moved into the Top 20 on Wednesday—a rare position for a rock band. "I WANNA BE YOUR SLAVE has entered the Top 100.
Around the world, both songs have leapt into the upper reaches of Spotify, iTunes and Apple Music's charts, with "Beggin" #21 in the latter's global ranking. They've also climbed into the U.K. Official's Top 10.
Can the quartet, who placed second in Italy's 2017 X Factor, jump the pond?
