Rock 'n' roll returned to Madison Square Garden Sunday night as Foo Fighters played the storied venue’s first full-capacity show in more than 15 months.
About 20,000 fans—either vaccinated or with recent negative COVID-19 tests—packed the house on Father’s Day to watch Dave Grohl and company perform for two hours and 45 minutes. “Did you miss it?” Grohl asked early on, getting the obvious answer and continuing, “Me too. I don’t think that we’d be here tonight if it weren’t for a lot of people that helped us get this far.”
The Foos opened with “Times Like These,” followed by “The Pretender,” and dedicated “My Hero” to frontline workers and the entire show to longtime stage manager Andy Pollard, who died on Friday. Taylor Hawkins sang a cover of Queen’s “Somebody to Love”; Dave Chappelle joined the band to sing Radiohead’s “Creep.”
The Garden’s next big scheduled show is the Eagles in August.
