NYC CROWNS CLIVE "HOMECOMING" CONCERT KING

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has asked Clive Davis to assemble a large-scale "Homecoming" concert in Central Park to re-open the city in August. After a few backstage anecdotes, Clive said “yes.”

The show is tentatively set for 8/21, though no artists have been announced yet (we hear a few have been booked). Live Nation will be involved, and the majority of tickets will be free, the New York Times reported in breaking the story.

Davis told The Times he hopes to bring in eight superstars for a three-hour show that will be televised. About 60,000 people would be admitted to the Great Lawn space.

The mayor told The Times that the concert was part of a “Homecoming Week”—and who doesn’t cherish the thought of late August in Manhattan with 90-degree heat and 100% humidity?

The team includes Davis' music-industry lawyer son, Doug Davis. They’re working on sponsorship deals in addition to booking artists. The mayor’s office also plans to announce a broadcast partner.

The Great Lawn is where Elton JohnDiana RossSimon & Garfunkel and others have performed. It is likewise the site of the Global Citizen Festival.
