PPL-PLEASING REVENUES
U.K. music-licensing company PPL collected £225.7 million (that’s more than $330 million for you residing stateside) for performers and recording rights holders in 2020. Though it’s a decrease of 17% from 2019, it is PPL’s third highest annual collections total despite lockdown restrictions affecting revenue from many of its public performance and commercial radio licensees.
In addition to doling out artists’ funds, PPL contributed nearly $2 million to a number of relief funds in 2020 including those run by AIM, BPI, Help Musicians, the Music Managers Forum, the Musicians’ Union and Stagehand. PPL continues to provide support in 2021.
Founded in 1934, PPL collects performance and broadcast royalties for over 120,000 performers and record companies.
