THE THIRD MOVEMENT

The third EP in the celebrated Liberated/Music for the Movement series will drop on 6/18 in honor of Juneteenth. It will also be a welcome addition to the offerings expected during Black Music Month (June). The latest set continues the fruitful collaboration between Hollywood Records and ESPN’s The Undefeated, which delves into the intersection of sports, race and culture. The new collection features music from Cordae & Common, Lucky Daye, Yara Shahidi, Chlöe and Kamasi Washington.

Chlöe contributes a cover version of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good." Lucky Daye’s “Running Blind” was produced by D’Mille, who won both a SOTY Grammy and a Best Song Oscar for his work on H.E.R.’s “Fight for You” from the Judas and the Black Messiah soundtrack. Grown-ish star Shahidi lends the set the sole spoken-word track, “To Be a Black Girl.”

Musically, the EP embraces jazz, funk, neo-soul, hip-hop and R&B as well as spoken word; its key themes are Black authenticity, self-authorship and unapologetic Black pride. The music is supplemented by rich cover art limned by celebrated South African illustrator Karabo.
