RIHANNA HITMAKERS RIDE THE WAVE

Primary Wave Music has acquired the music-publishing catalog of the songwriter/producers who discovered Rihanna, Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers. Larry Mestel’s company will also obtain a share in the duo’s master royalty income stream across Rihanna’s first seven albums.

The multimillion-dollar deal encompasses master income for hits such as “Umbrella,” “Don’t Stop the Music,” “Stay” and “What’s My Name.” The deal also includes the duo’s share of publishing on “Shut Up and Drive” as well as Rihanna's debut single, “Pon de Replay.”

Among their hits for other artists are Kelly Clarkson’s “The Trouble With Love Is,” *NSYNC’s “(God Must Have Spent) A Little More Time on You” and 5 Seconds of Summer’s “Teeth.”

“Sturken and Rogers' career spans decades of creating top hits, and when they discovered and signed Rihanna in 2005, it solidified their place in pop-music history as she has proven to be one of the world’s biggest stars,” said PW President Justin Shukat.

Sturken and Rogers, who have written more than 20 Top 40 hits, started their careers in the NYC R&B scene of the early 1980s, working on the Beat Street soundtrack and producing Cheryl Lynn, Stephanie Mills and Jennifer Holiday. They crossed over to the pop world by engineering the comeback of Donny Osmond with “Soldier of Love.”

The team also wrote and produced songs for Christina Aguilera’s first album, 98 Degrees Revelation and the multiplatinum debut albums of Jessica Simpson, Mandy Moore and Anastacia.

Sixteen-year-old Robyn Rihanna Fenty was the first signing to their Syndicated Rhythm Productions. Among the other artists and writers they've signed are Shontelle, Brandon Hodge (aka BAM) and Kandace Springs.
