When you're signing a fat catalog deal with Merck Mercuriadis, it's pretty gangsta to be able to do so by the pool, even if there's some weirdo lurking in the background. So thought 2021 Grammy Producer of the Year and hit tunesmith Andrew Watt as he put pen to paper, sealing a deal that will cause said pool to be filled with Benjamins.
Watt, who earned his Producer trophy for his work with Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus and Post Malone, among others, has co-penned a bevy of smashes, including five of the Top 100 most-streamed songs of all time. We're talking "Senorita," "Havana," "Let Me Love You," "Eastside" and more. He co-wrote and produced five cuts on old pal Justin Bieber's new album, and you'll also find his fingerprints on big cuts by Selena Gomez, The Chainsmokers, Kygo, 5SOS and other twinkling stars in the pop firmament.
Merck proclaimed Watt "arguably the most important writer and producer in the world today," adding, "and I don’t use those words lightly. Watt and Scooter are an incredibly important part of our future.”
Oh, Scooter! We knew that guy in the background looked familiar.
"Andrew is one of the most groundbreaking producers and songwriters of our time, and I’ve had the honor to have a front-row seat to so many of his record-breaking achievements in the industry," said Braun while skimming some leaves off the deep end. "His talent and creative process are unparalleled and we look forward to what the future holds in this new partnership with Merck."
