SPOTIFY'S EQUAL FOCUSES ON WOMEN

Spotify has launched a massive global program designed to foster gender equality by supporting women creators under one umbrella.

The EQUAL Music Program debuted Thursday with unique playlists for 35 markets spanning 50+ countries. The EQUAL Global playlist culls the best of women artists. The initial offering includes Icy/Warner Records rapper/singer Saweetie, with the inaugural EQUAL + NOTEABLE playlist featuring 40 songs 100% written, produced and performed by women.

“As female artists, we have to work twice as hard as men to get the recognition we deserve, not to mention having to deal with sexism and the societal pressures associated with just being a woman,” said Saweetie. “We give so much of ourselves to our craft and the industry that at minimum our voices merit equal representation.”
