A 30M MILESTONE FOR SMITH

Sam Smith has hit 30m album sales worldwide with their three releases, amassing 30b global streams to date and reaching more than 33m monthly listeners on Spotify. Their YouTube views are now in excess of 7.6b.

Smith’s manager, Max Gerrans at Method Management, said of the achievement: “When we began this journey we could never have imagined we’d be where we are today, but Sam is a wholly unique artist and their work ethic, drive and vision is truly remarkable. Everyone on the team has worked tirelessly to help tell Sam’s story and deliver their vision on a truly global scale. We cannot wait for their next chapter.”

Smith’s monthly listeners on Spotify peaked at 46m in late 2020 after the release of their third album, Love Goes, which hit #2 in the U.K. and #5 in the U.S. Their debut, In the Lonely Hour, entered the charts at #1 in the U.K. and #2 in the U.S. in 2014 and has gone on to break records in the U.S. for highest first-week sales for a British artist. They were also the only artist in the world in 2014 to sell 1m albums in the U.K. and U.S.

General manager of Capitol U.K. Tom Paul said the 30m feat is “spectacular recognition for a superlative talent," continuing, “Sam, Method Management and the entire global Universal team have worked incredibly hard and we all look forward to the next milestone in Sam's career.”

Earlier this year, Smith, who identifies as non-binary, was a notable omission from the BRIT Awards nominations due to their being excluded from the gendered categories.
