SPOTIFY’S STILL DANCING

Kitchen rave, anyone? With music venue and nightclub doors being closed for over a year, Spotify’s highlighting new data that shows people are getting creative with at-home alternatives.

Dance music lovers have taken the party to their kitchens, living rooms and gardens while the genre streams continue to boom.

A host of DJs, venues and producers have brought the club scene to fans’ homes with virtual sets while artists like Bicep are collaborating with others by teaming up with Spotify to launch guest takeovers on their alt-electronic playlist, Altar.

Since January, 80k new playlists have been created with “Dance” in the title, which have contributed to 143m+ hours of dance music streamed this year. The U.K. has also seen a 26% rise in Kitchen Rave playlists in the last 90 days, so you can vibe out while you cook in.

“Whilst we all eagerly await doors re-opening, it has been amazing to see the interest in the genre across the platform with both new and loyal fans turning to tracks to lift their mood, mark the arrival of the weekend and relive dancefloor moments,” said Spotify Dance Music Editor, Christie Driver-Snell.

This year, DJ/producer Calvin Harris has been the most streamed commercial dance artist, followed by David Guetta, while Anne-Marie, Digital Farm Animals and KSI’s “Don’t Play” is the top commercial dance track so far. The Dance Pop genre alone saw 4b+ streams in the U.K. since the beginning of 2021.

Thankfully, kitchen raves don’t have someone yelling in your ear asking if you have any molly, or do they?
