APPLE FILMS BOARD ARMSTRONG DOC

Apple Original Films has given the green light to a Louis Armstrong documentary from Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries and Universal Music Group’s Polygram Entertainment.

Filmmaker/journalist Sacha Jenkins (Wu Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men, Burn Motherfucker, Burn) will direct Black & Blues: The Colorful Ballad of Louis Armstrong and produce with Julie Anderson, Sara Bernstein and Justin Wilkes. Grazer and Howard will exec produce with UMG’s Michele Anthony and David Blackman.

The film, which will be a deep dive into never-seen archives, is the result of Imagine Documentaries President Wilkes forming a partnership with the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation two years ago to create a definitive feature documentary on the jazz icon.

The Polygram-Imagine hookup follows their previous joint projects Pavarotti, The Beatles: Eight Days a Week—The Touring Years, and Once Were Brothers: Robbie Robertson and The Band.
