MLC ADDS THREE

The Mechanical Licensing Collective has announced the addition of three new members to its leadership team: Kristen Johns (Chief Legal Officer), Nathan Osher (Assistant General Counsel–Publisher Relations) and Andrew Mitchell (Head of Analytics and Automation).

An intellectual property and technology lawyer, Johns arrives from Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis, LLP, in Nashville, where she was a partner. Osher, a 20-year veteran of the music industry, was most recently Senior Vice President of Legal & Business Affairs for Warner Chappell Music. Mitchell comes to The MLC from Warner Music Group, where he was Vice President of Analytics & Process Automation. All three will be based at The MLC’s main office in Nashville.

The MLC administers the blanket compulsory license—determined by the Music Modernization Act of 2018—used by more than 50 digital streaming services. As of January, all mechanical royalties from streaming in the U.S. will be processed and paid out by The MLC at no cost to songwriters or music publishers. See? Some things in life are still free.
