ENTERCOM ENTERS LICENSE PACT WITH SWIRV'S GMR

Media giant Entercom and Irving Azoff’s boutique PRO Global Music Rights (GMR) have inked a long-term license agreement that allows Entercom to play songs by GMR-affiliated artists and songwriters like Bruce Springsteen, the Eagles, John Lennon, George Harrison, Harry Styles, Drake, Prince, Lizzo and Nicki Minaj. The multi-year deal, which is now in effect, takes place as Entercom—best known as a ginormous radio chain—makes strong moves into podcasting and other audio-on-demand offerings.

Entercom Chairman, President and CEO David Field hailed the partnership, noting that GMR reps “some of the top talent on radio today. The combination of Entercom’s reach and GMR’s music is a huge win for our audience.”

“Music always brings people together,” reads a quote from Azoff. “David is a music fan so it’s no surprise that he welcomed the opportunity to work together to bring great music to fans through Entercom’s network.”

Some industry tongues are wagging about the fact that Entercom had previously been named in the Radio Music Licensing Committee (RMLC) suit against GMR. As Irving tends not to do deals with people who are suing him, is it fair to assume that Entercom is no longer part of the legal action? GMR’s press source was unavailable for comment.
