ARTISTS UNITE FOR POLICE REFORM BILL
A group of top recording artists—including Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, Nas and Sean Combs—have launched the Alliance for Criminal Justice Reform to push for passage of the George Floyd in Policing Act.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the act, a bill calling for sweeping change in how law enforcement conducts itself and is held accountable in incidents involving people of color, in February. The bill’s passage is far from assured, however, in the gridlocked Senate, where 60 votes are required to send it to President Biden’s desk.
Later this spring (date TBD), a virtual lobbying day will be held, during which musicians will be joined by top professional athletes (Chris Paul, Andre Iguodala) and coaches (Doc Rivers, Gregg Popovich) to push the Senate to pass the bill.
