ADELE CROWNED QUEEN OF THE U.K.

National Album Day in the U.K. on 10/16 will celebrate women in music, and today, on International Women’s Day, Official Charts Company data has revealed the Top 10 women album artists since the start of 2000. Not surprisingly, Adele sits at #1.

In October, NAD will return for its fourth edition and will be shining a light on the contribution made by women and female-identifying artists to music and culture through the art form of the album.

On the OCC’s list, P!nk sits behind at Adele at #2, followed by Madonna, Rihanna and Dido. Amy Winehouse, Kylie Minogue, Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga complete the Top 10. Adele, Winehouse and Dido are the three Brits on the list. The Top 10 artists have collectively sold more than 72m albums, including streamed album equivalents.

The data also revealed the Top 10-selling albums by women over this period, with Adele featuring three times. Each of her seminal albums has reached at least 8x platinum status in the U.K., with 2011’s 21 (XL)—the best-seller on the list—shifting just shy of 6m copies in the U.K. alone.

Adele's 21 was followed by Winehouse’s Back to Black (Island), while Leona LewisSpirit (Sony BMG) was the fourth-best-selling album. You can see the full list below.
