Dropping this Friday: Black History Always–Music for the Movement Vol. 2. The EP is the second installment of the ongoing collaboration of The Undefeated, ESPN’s content initiative exploring the intersection of sports, race and culture, and Hollywood Records. Contributing artists include Rapsody, Keedron Bryant, Jensen McRae, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin and Alex Isley.
The launch will be trumpeted by a media blitz, including a Wednesday-night appearance by Tobe Nwigwe on Jimmy Kimmel Live and a Thursday performance from Momo with Infinity Song on Good Morning America 3. On Sunday, ESPN will air the hour-long special A Room of Our Own, which will feature performances by Isley and Volume 1 contributors Tinashe, Freddie Gibbs and Jensen McRae. The release will also be talked up at multiple outlets, including CBS News, Color of Change, Another Act With Kelley Carter and The Right Time With Bomani Jones.
Like the inaugural release, I Can’t Breathe, Black History Always reimagines historically significant songs and presents a new original and a spoken-word piece, all performed by contemporary artists. Each track is accompanied by original artwork from a Black artist.
The EP cover art was created by Minneapolis-based Ace Rice, who owns and curates PLOT Gallery, a hot spot for art, clothing and accessories, with goods from local artists.
