In our new feature, Power Hitters, we shine a spotlight on the brilliant songwriters and producers behind the biggest smashes in the biz, the players who regularly step up to the plate and deliver a hit—and frequently drive it clear out of the park.
From his studio work with superstars J. Balvin and Bad Bunny to collaborations with divas Dua Lipa and Selena Gomez, Tainy has made the jump from reggaeton secret weapon to mainstream success, becoming one of pop’s premier hitmakers.
The producer recently oversaw Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dakiti,” which topped global charts throughout the holiday season and spurred the success of Bunny’s first U.S. #1 album, El Último Tour del Mundo. Tainy was also behind the board for three other tracks from the set, including the Rosalía collab “La Noche de Anoche.”
Since inking a JV deal with Interscope in 2019, NEON16—the label Tainy co-founded with manager Lex Borrero—has released the Grammy-nominated “Un Dia” by Lipa, Balvin and Bad Bunny; Balvin and Tainy’s pairing from The SpongeBob Movie, “Agua”; and material for Gomez’s first Spanish-language EP, Revelación, executive-produced by Tainy/NEON16.
Tainy earlier produced Bad Bunny’s biggest hits, including “Safaera,” “Yo Perreo Sola” and the entirety of his 2018 debut (and breakthrough), X 100pre. The producer's credit on Cardi B’s #1 “I Like It” f/Balvin and Bunny, meanwhile, was a major crossover moment in his burgeoning career during a milestone year, 2018, that also included half of Balvin's Vibras.
Tainy recently collaborated with hitmakers Anuel AA, Ozuna and Rauw Alejandro.
He and NEON16 are maintaining their momentum with the arrival of further tracks from Revelación and The SpongeBob Movie, while Bad Bunny will be the musical guest on the 2/20 edition of SNL—likely giving “Dakiti” another boost.
Peep the Sony Music Publishing-repped catalog below for more of Tainy's credits.
