LIFEBEAT AND RWQUARANTUNES RAISE $130K

LIFEbeat raised more than $130k during a virtual fundraiser as part of Richard Weitz and Demi Weitz’s invite-only Zoom concert series, RWQuarantunes. Held on 1/23, the event featured artists, songwriters and notable entertainment-industry types in support of sexual health and safety.

More than 400 guests tuned in to catch performances and appearances by Aurora, Big Freedia, Brandy Clark, Morris Day, Josh Groban, Cyndi Lauper, Amos Lee, Dave Matthews, Sarah McLachlan, Linda Perry, Marc Roberge (O.A.R.), Al Roker, Shanice, Simon Ward (The Strumbellas), Pete Yorn and more.

Co-hosted by LIFEbeat board member Gary Dell’Abate, Executive Producer of the Howard Stern Show, the livestream saw opening remarks from Native Son Founder Emil Wilbekin and honored late industry vet Mitch Slater, who was LIFEbeat's board president for many years.

“These donations give LIFEbeat the opportunity to build its programs and share critical sexual-health resources with people, especially young people, who are vulnerable and at risk. Particularly at a time when so many organizations are struggling, this support is lifesaving,” said Dell’Abate.

"This is so personal for people,” added Richard Weitz. “It was amazing to have Sarah McLachlan, Dave Matthews, Linda Perry and so many others come out and support LIFEbeat to help the LGBTQ+ community and to educate people about safe sex."

Weitz and his daughter Demi have raised more than $16m for charitable organizations since RWQuaratunes was launched early in the pandemic. For nearly 30 years, LIFEbeat has advocated for sexual health alongside artist and industry platforms to connect at-risk communities with resources and services.
