The helicopter carrying the twice-impeached loser of the 2020 presidential election, Donald J. Trump, left the White House for the final time early on Inauguration Day.
Joseph R. Biden Jr. was sworn in by Chief Justice John Roberts as the 46th President just before noon on the White House steps.
Lady Gaga sang the National Anthem, Jennifer Lopez performed a medley of “This Land Is Your Land” and “America the Beautiful" and Garth Brooks closed the musical portion of the event with "Amazing Grace."
Trump chose to go against 152 years of tradition wherein the outgoing leader of the United States participates in the peaceful hand-off of power to the new administration.
Among his last acts in office was a lengthy collection of pardons and clemency grants (143 in total) for Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, Stephen Bannon and Jared Kushner’s father.
Trump landed at Joint Base Andrews to spread a final layer of lies before taking his family of grifters to Florida, where he’ll gladly sell you some prime swampland. "Have a good life" were his final words in public as president. He departed while the strains of that most presidential of tunes, the Village People's "YMCA," blared.
Yes, irony is still lost on Trump and his base.
The rally music played for the crowd included The Village People's "YMCA," weirdly enough, and Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son” in which John Fogerty sings:
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, yeah
But when the taxman comes to the door
The house look a like a rummage sale.
Good riddance.
