Lily Cornell Silver—daughter of Chris Cornell—is hosting a special MLK Day episode of her web series and podcast, Mind Wide Open. Joining Silver for the season two premiere is actor, activist and artist Michael K. Williams (Lovecraft Country, The Wire). Watch the episode on IGTV, beginning at 9am ET on Monday.
The production will raise funds for Crew Count, Williams' initiative to combat NYPD's "Operation Crew Cut," which increased New York's gang database by more than 40,000 people, overwhelmingly people of color.
Mind Wide Open is also partnering with Crew Count to raise funds to continue the important work its doing in New York's most challenging neighborhoods. The goal is to create educational, employment and other opportunities to reduce the number of young people becoming involved in gangs.
Silver and Williams also delve into systemic oppression, prison reform, women in prison and mental-health challenges. Williams reveals his own struggles with intergenerational trauma, how therapy has helped him and how he still loves the neighborhoods in and around New York where he grew up.
In season two of Mind Wide Open, Silver has conversations with renowned artists, activists, mental-health professionals and others. The show appears on IGTV every other Tuesday at 12pm ET and is now available as a podcast on Spotify and Apple Music as well as on YouTube with subtitles available in Spanish and English. Previous guests include Eddie Veddier, Nadya Tolokonnikova of Pussy Riot and influencer/activist Sir Carter. Learn more about the web series here.
