SO. CENTRAL REIGN: WARNOCK AND OSSOFF (UPDATE)

Raphael Warnock has made history as Georgia’s first Black senator, and Jon Ossoff, at 33, will be the youngest senator since Joe Biden won in 1973 at age 30.

There is now a 50-50 split in the Senate, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris as the tie-breaking vote in her capacity as the president of the Senate. Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York is expected to take over as majority leader from Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who’s had that role for six years.

“I’m just so very grateful to the people of Georgia," Warnock said Wednesday on CBS This Morning. “They sent a strong and clear message last night when they sent a person who grew up in public housing, one of 12 children in my family. I'm the first college graduate. That I am serving in the United States Senate in a few days pushes against the grain of so many expectations. But this is America."

Stacey AbramsFair Fight and luminaries from Atlanta’s hip-hop community are being widely praised for their key roles in bringing out the blue vote in record numbers. The turnout for the special election shattered state records, with more than 4.5m votes cast.
