2020 cemented TikTok's status as the most influential platform in music. In its first-ever year-end Music Report, the popular app breaks down the fastest songs, biggest genres and most important benchmarks achieved this year.
More than 170 songs surpassed 1 billion views as TikTok Sounds. Drake's "Toosie Slide" was the fastest to 1b, reaching that mark in just three days. Other quick movers were Cardi B's "WAP," Billie Eilish's "Therefore I Am" and WhoHeem's "Let's Link."
Another important biz-related figure: 70+. That's the number of new acts landing major-label record deals after blowing up on TikTok.
Hip-hop occupies more than half the genre share (see pie chart at right), led by songs from Pop Smoke, DaBaby, Roddy Ricch and Megan Thee Stallion. Pop is second, boosted by BTS, Justin Bieber and Dua Lipa. Latin is one of the fastest-growing genres.
TikTok also ranked 2020's Top 10 most-viewed artists by catalog:
The top emerging artists of 2020 include 24kGoldn, Flo Milli, Tate McRae, Tai Verdes and The Kid LAROI.
