Sony/ATV has elevated John Pires to Executive Vice President, Global Business Development, in which capacity he will oversee emerging and current business development across various departments, including new opportunities in production music and neighboring rights.
He will also help expand Sony/ATV’s global presence and organize and streamline the company’s worldwide initiatives related to investments, acquisitions and signings.
Based in Los Angeles, Pires reports directly to Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Jon Platt.
“John has been instrumental in creating opportunities for Sony/ATV’s songwriters and expanding our business worldwide,” Platt said. “I’m pleased to recognize his many contributions as a leader with this well-deserved promotion.”
Pires joined Sony/ATV in 2007 as Vice President, Business Development when the company acquired Famous Music and in 2010 rose to the level of Senior Vice President, Business Development. In 2011, he was a member of the executive team that acquired EMI Music Publishing and was involved in all areas of the $2.3b transaction, including contract negotiations, revenue forecasting and synergy analysis.
