The Great Performances: Grammy Salute to Music Legends, a virtual awards ceremony and tribute concert for the Recording Academy’s 2020 Special Merit Awards recipients will air tonight on PBS.
The show will also be available on demand for the next four weeks.
Produced without an audience and in different locations due to COVID-19's impact on live events, Jimmy Jam is the host.
Cyndi Lauper will honor Ken Ehrlich, Brandi Carlile and Jason Isbell will do separate tributes to John Prine and Cynthia Erivo and Leslie Odom Jr. salutes Roberta Flack. Chicago, Flack, Isaac Hayes, Iggy Pop, Prine, Public Enemy, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe received the Lifetime Achievement Awards; Ehrlich, Philip Glass and Frank Walker received Trustees Award honors; and George Augspurger was recognized with the Technical Grammy Award. Mickey Smith Jr. will accept the Music Educator Award.
To honor Flack, Erivo will sing "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and Erivo and Odom will duet on "Where Is The Love."
Philip Bailey will sing Chicago’s "If You Leave Me Now," Yola honors Thorpe with "Up Above My Head, I Hear Music In The Air," Sam Moore will do a medley of Hayes’ compositions, Laurie Anderson salutes Glass with "Gee Whiz" and Chris Isaak gives Walker a tip of the hat with "Your Cheatin' Heart."
