Jagged Little Pill leads the Tony Award nominations with 15 in a year that finds three shows filled with beloved pop music vying for the top prizes.
Pill, the story of a suddenly struggling suburban family set to Alanis Morissette’s classic album, is up against the stage adaptation of Baz Luhrmann’s 2001 film Moulin Rouge! and the bio-musical Tina: The Tina Turner Musical in the Best Musical and Book of a Musical categories. All three shows have nominees in the actor and actress, featured actor and actress, director, scenic design, costume design, lighting design, choreography and orchestrations categories.
Jeremy O. Harris’ Slave Play leads non-musical nominees with a dozen.
