Two-time Grammy nominee Koryn Hawthorne recently took over Spotify’s #BlackGirlMagic playlist as the first gospel artist to curate the selection of songs.
With a robust mix of R&B, rap, pop and gospel music, the collection of tracks features singles from the likes of Beyonce, Chloe x Halle, H.E.R., Tamela Mann, Mary Mary, Megan Thee Stallion, Mary J. Blige, Lizzo and Hawthorne herself.
With over 403k followers, the #BlackGirlMagic playlist is an extension of Spotify’s Black Music Month campaign and past curators include Kelly Rowland, Marsai Martin, Gabrielle Union-Wade and Tracee Ellis Ross.
In addition to curating the unapologetically Black playlist, Hawthorne is gearing up for her second full length album, I Am, due 9/18. Featuring her #1 single “Pray,” the album is available for pre-order here.
Most recently, Hawthorne dropped her soulful track “Speak to Me,” which was co-written by Johntá Austin, Troy Taylor and Jeremy "TryBishop" Hicks. Spinning on Gospel radio and Urban AC, she also performed the single on the 35th Annual Stellar Awards this past weekend, which she co-hosted as well.
