Metallica is heading to a drive-in near you this month. On 8/29, the Encore Drive-In Nights series will show a new concert film of Metallica at hundreds of drive-in and outdoor theaters across the United States and Canada.
Metallica is shooting the concert at a location near their Northern California headquarters and will subsequently be edited and mixed by the band’s production team. Three Days Grace is the opening act.
Concurrently, Metallica will be releasing S&M2, the concert recording of their pairing with the San Francisco Symphony, on Blackened Recordings on 8/28. Every ticket purchase, which admits one carload of up to six people, will include four digital downloads of the album.
Metallica is the first rock band to be featured in the Encore Drive-In Nights series, which recently showed a Blake Shelton concert. Tickets go on sale Wednesday to fan club members and Friday to the general pubic.
