Taylor Swift's surprise album, folklore, has set a new Spotify global record for first-day album streams by a female artist (80.6m). That's a lot, right?
Per SpotifyCharts.com, the U.S. accounted for 44m of those first-day streams. First-day domestic streams for her prior album, Lover, were 29m.
Nine cuts from the new Republic release are in the Top 10 of today's Spotify U.S. chart; "Cardigan," "The 1" and "Exile" are the Top 3. Tay's well-reviewed set also owns 11 of the Top 20 slots on the global chart with "Cardigan" at #1. She also owns three of the Top 4 spots at Apple Music (where the album earned nearly 35.5m streams in 24 hours) and seven of the Top 20. Also, not surprisingly, folklore is #1 at iTunes—the clean version is #2—and Amazon Music and shattered Amazon's indie/alternative streaming record, both domestically and worldwide.)
It's worth noting that the ranking of the songs on the streaming charts closely mirrors the sequencing of folklore, suggesting that the album experience is paramount for listeners this time out.
How big will her streaming reign be? Stay tuned.
